On Thursday, October 22th at 4:30 p.m., we cordially invite you to the Angelicum for a public lecture by Archbishop Jacques Mourad, titled “Martyr. Witness to Hope”.
Drawing on the experience of a land that has endured profound war, violence and suffering in recent years, this meeting aims to explore the lives and witness of Christians in Syria, focusing in particular on their ability to preserve and pass on hope.
Through the experiences of those who have endured abduction, fear and a real brush with death, we aim to gain an insight into the reality of a community which, despite its wounds and difficulties, continues to live out its faith and forge bonds of brotherhood.
Alongside the dimension of suffering, the years of experience in dialogue with others, in solidarity and in the pursuit of coexistence will come to the fore, showing how, precisely in contexts marked by conflict, gestures of mercy, closeness and reconciliation can emerge.
The meeting will therefore be an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of Christian hope:
a hope that does not arise from the absence of suffering, but from the ability to endure it without being overcome, recognising the other as a brother or sister and continuing to believe in the possibility of peace, dialogue and goodness.
