In Islam, love is not a peripheral sentiment but a core principle of the human-divine relationship. The Qurʾan portrays God as al-Wadūd (the All-Loving), and love for God is presented as both a mark of faith and a path to nearness. Early Sufi figures such as Rābiʿa al-ʿAdawiyya and al-Ġazālī deepened this concept, portraying love for God as the highest spiritual station, motivated not by fear or hope, but by pure longing for the Divine. This lecture offers both a theological and interreligious reflection on how love in Islam – and more specifically in the thought of Ibn ʿArabī – may contribute meaningfully to contemporary spiritual discourse and dialogue.

PLEASE REGISTER AT EVENTI@PISAI.IT

This lecture explores the rich tradition of divine love in Islamic thought, beginning with its Qurʾanic foundations and Prophetic traditions and culminating in the visionary metaphysics of the Andalusian sufi Muḥyī al-Dīn Ibn ʿArabī (d. 1240).
